This is Us!

We are Regina and Isi – two best friends whose bond has grown stronger over more than 15 years of laughter, adventures, and shared dreams. Regina is a dedicated physician, while Isi brings her expertise as a registered nurse. But we're connected by something even deeper than our professions: a genuine passion for medicine, women's health, and making a real difference in people's lives.

Our friendship was forged through late-night study sessions, early morning hospital rounds, and countless conversations about how we could use our medical knowledge to help women live healthier, happier lives. We've always been the kind of friends who dream big together – and my•mense is the beautiful result of one of those dreams.

Our Professional Journey

Working in healthcare has given us a front-row seat to the real struggles women face. In hospital corridors, examination rooms, and through countless patient conversations, we've heard the same concerns over and over: discomfort during periods, anxiety about leaks, frustration with products that don't deliver on their promises, and the environmental guilt that comes with disposable products.

As medical professionals, we understand the female body intimately – the anatomy, the hormonal cycles, the physiological changes that occur during menstruation. But as women ourselves, we also understand the emotional and practical realities that textbooks don't always capture: the moment of panic when you feel a leak, the discomfort of bulky pads during a long shift, the environmental concern of throwing away yet another tampon.

This unique combination of professional expertise and personal experience became the foundation of everything we would build.

📱 medicineXcare: Where It All Began

January 2022 - A Simple Idea Takes Root

Our journey into the world of women's health entrepreneurship began with something we never expected: Instagram. With our social media account @medicinexcare, we started sharing medical knowledge in a way that broke down traditional barriers – no complicated jargon, no condescending explanations, just real, practical, accessible information that women could use in their everyday lives.

We talked about topics that medical professionals often gloss over: painful periods, irregular cycles, contraception choices, hormonal changes, and yes, period products. We shared tips from our years of medical training, debunked myths, and answered questions honestly and openly.

Building a Community, One Post at a Time

What happened next took us completely by surprise. Our account didn't just gain followers – it built a community. A real, engaged, vibrant community of women who were hungry for honest information about their bodies. Every day, our DMs filled with questions, stories, concerns, and gratitude.

Women shared their struggles with period products that failed them at crucial moments. They told us about skipping gym classes because of period anxiety, avoiding white pants all week, and feeling limited by their menstrual cycles. They asked us about sustainable options, comfortable alternatives, and whether there was anything better out there than what they'd been using for years.

These weren't just casual conversations – they were windows into real problems that needed real solutions. And as healthcare professionals who had experienced many of these same frustrations, we couldn't ignore what we were hearing.

🩸 The Problem: Tampons & Co.? No Thanks

The Uncomfortable Truth About Traditional Period Products

Through our community conversations and our daily work in the hospital, a pattern became impossible to ignore: conventional period products simply weren't working for most women. Sure, they existed, and women used them because there were few alternatives, but satisfaction? Comfort? Confidence? Those were often missing from the equation.

Pads felt bulky, created noise with every movement, caused irritation, and left many women feeling like they were wearing a diaper. The fear of visible lines through clothing and the distinctive rustling sound made them impractical for many situations.

Tampons required frequent changes, carried risks like TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome), often leaked unexpectedly, and could be uncomfortable for those with sensitive bodies. Plus, the environmental impact of billions of tampons ending up in landfills weighed heavily on many women's consciences.

Menstrual cups seemed like a revolutionary solution, but the reality was often different. Many women struggled with insertion, experienced discomfort, dealt with messy removal situations (especially in public bathrooms), or simply found them impractical for their lifestyle.

Our Personal Period Product Journey

We were honest with ourselves and our community: we had tried everything, and nothing felt quite right. As women working demanding jobs with irregular schedules, we needed something that could keep up with our lives – not slow us down.

During long surgical procedures or 12-hour nursing shifts, we couldn't always slip away to change a tampon. During intense workout sessions, we wanted to focus on our performance, not worry about leaks. When traveling to new places, we didn't want to spend mental energy calculating how many products to pack or where we'd dispose of them.

We wanted something better. We deserved something better. Every woman did.

Discovering Period Underwear (Almost)

That's when we discovered period underwear. On paper, it was brilliant: a reusable, sustainable, comfortable solution that could replace disposables entirely. No more last-minute drugstore runs, no more overflowing bathroom trash, no more environmental guilt. Just comfortable underwear that happened to absorb menstrual flow.

We were excited. We ordered multiple brands, eager to find our solution.

But the excitement didn't last. The reality of early period underwear fell short in so many ways:

  • The fabric felt thick and synthetic, not breathable
  • The fit was often unflattering and uncomfortable
  • The absorbency was inconsistent – some leaked, others felt damp
  • The durability suffered after just a few washes
  • The design looked more like medical garments than actual underwear

We wanted to love period underwear. The concept was perfect. But the execution? Not quite there yet.

The Lightbulb Moment

That's when it hit us: We can do better.

With our medical knowledge, our understanding of women's needs, our community's feedback, and our determination to create real solutions – we had everything we needed to revolutionize period underwear. We didn't just want to make another product; we wanted to create the period underwear we wish had existed all along.

🔬 Period Underwear – But Better: The Development Journey

One Year of Testing, Tinkering, and Learning

What followed was one of the most challenging, rewarding, and educational years of our lives. Creating my•mense wasn't just about designing underwear – it was about reimagining what period care could be.

Phase 1: Research & Understanding (Months 1-3)

We dove deep into research mode:

  • Fabric Science: We studied absorbency rates, breathability properties, moisture-wicking capabilities, and antimicrobial treatments. We learned about different layer configurations and how materials interact with menstrual flow.

  • Body Mapping: Using our medical knowledge, we mapped out exactly where absorbency was needed most, which areas required extra breathability, and how different body types would wear the underwear.

  • Sustainability Analysis: We researched eco-friendly materials, manufacturing processes with minimal environmental impact, and durability testing to ensure longevity.

  • Competitor Analysis: We purchased and tested every brand of period underwear we could find, documenting what worked, what didn't, and where opportunities for improvement existed.

Phase 2: Design & Prototyping (Months 4-7)

With research in hand, we began the creative process:

  • Textile Selection: We tested dozens of fabric combinations for the absorption layer, seeking the perfect balance of thinness, absorbency, and comfort. We experimented with organic cotton, bamboo fibers, moisture-wicking synthetics, and various blends.

  • Layer Configuration: The magic of period underwear is in its layers. We tested 2-layer, 3-layer, 4-layer, and even 5-layer designs, measuring absorbency capacity, drying time, and how each felt against the skin.

  • Cut & Design: We worked with pattern makers to create multiple cuts – from bikini to high-waisted, from seamless to stylish. We considered waistband elasticity, leg opening security, and overall aesthetic appeal.

  • Manufacturing Partners: We connected with ethical manufacturers who shared our values of fair labor practices, quality craftsmanship, and environmental responsibility.

Phase 3: Real-World Testing (Months 8-12)

This was where theory met reality – and reality was brutally honest:

  • Personal Testing: We wore prototypes during our hospital shifts, workouts, sleep, and daily activities. We documented every experience – every comfort level, every leak, every success.

  • Community Feedback: We recruited women from our medicinexcare community to test prototypes. Different body types, different flow levels, different lifestyles – we needed diverse perspectives.

  • Iterative Improvements: Each round of testing revealed new insights. The waistband needed to be 2mm lower. The absorbent layer needed to extend further forward. The fabric needed better moisture distribution. We adjusted, tested again, and refined continuously.

  • Durability Testing: We washed prototypes dozens of times, testing whether absorbency decreased, elastic lost strength, or fabric deteriorated. Our goal was underwear that would last for years, not months.

  • Edge Cases: We tested extreme scenarios – heavy flow days, intense workouts, overnight wear, hot weather, travel situations – because real life isn't controlled or predictable.

The Challenges We Overcame

The journey wasn't smooth. We faced setbacks that tested our determination:

  • Material Sourcing: Finding suppliers who could provide high-quality, sustainable materials at quantities suitable for a startup was challenging.

  • Manufacturing Minimums: Many manufacturers required minimum order quantities that were financially risky for a new brand.

  • Technical Failures: Early prototypes leaked. Some felt uncomfortable. Others looked great but didn't perform. Each failure was discouraging but educational.

  • Balancing Act: Creating underwear that was thin enough to be comfortable, absorbent enough to be effective, breathable enough to prevent odor, and durable enough to last – all simultaneously – was incredibly complex.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring our products met all safety standards and medical device regulations required extensive documentation and testing.

But every challenge made us more determined. Every failure taught us something valuable. And slowly, prototype by prototype, we got closer to perfection.

The Breakthrough

After countless iterations, we finally held in our hands what we'd been working toward: period underwear that was everything we'd dreamed of. It was comfortable enough to forget you were wearing it. March 2023 - A Dream Becomes Reality
